The Story of Atholi
A journey through the social, cultural, educational and developmental milestones that shaped Atholi Grama Panchayat.
1. Socio-Cultural History
Atholi has a rich cultural heritage rooted in ancient traditions, legends and community life. The Northern Ballads (Vadakkan Pattukal) associate the region with the legendary hero Thacholi Othenan.
Umbrella stones (Kodakkallu) and burial chambers associated with the Megalithic period provide evidence of the area's ancient cultural past.
Traditional art forms included Kolkkali, Theyyam, Thira, Thottam Pattu, Dafmuttu and Poothappattu. Dravidian and tribal traditions also influenced local customs and rituals.
