Atholi Grama Panchayat📍 Location and AreaThe Atholi Grama Panchayat is located in the Balussery Block of the Koyilandy Taluk in the Kozhikode District of Kerala. It falls within the Atholi village limits and has an area of $21.06$ square kilometers.Borders:North: Ulliyeri and Balussery Panchayats.East: Nanmanda, Balussery, and Talakulatthur Panchayats.South: Talakulatthur and Chemancheri Panchayats.West: Korapuzha River, Ulliyeri, Chemancheri, and Chengottukavu Panchayats.Atholi Grama Panchayat, which is about 15 km northeast of Kozhikode city, was historically part of the Kurumbranad Taluk in the erstwhile Madras State, comprising 11 deshams (localities).🏞️ Topography and GeographyThe Panchayat's terrain can be divided into two main zones based on elevation:Areas up to 20 meters in height.Areas ranging from 20 to 160 meters in height.The highest point is the Eliyode Mala (hill), situated in the southeast, reaching an elevation of 160 meters above sea level.The north-eastern and central parts are characterized by undulating terrain (ups and downs).The western side is generally a flat region, lying below 20 meters.Based on its physiography, the Panchayat can be classified into:High plains (raised plateaus)SlopesValleysSwamps/MarshesRiverbanksThe soil types found here include laterite soil (Chemman), sandy soil (Manalman), alluvial soil (Ekkal Man), and laterite regions (Chenkal pradesham). Clay soil (Kalimannu) is also found rarely in some places.🌾 AgricultureAtholi was once a major granary (nellarra) of the Kurumbranad Taluk.The current main crop is coconut (Thengu).Other crops cultivated include paddy (Nellu), arecanut (Kavungu), banana (Vazha), pepper (Kurumulak), rubber, ginger (Inji), cashew (Kashumavu), tapioca (Marachini), and pulses/beans (Payar).Areas formerly used for paddy cultivation have gradually given way to other crops.
